This is an answer to a question you asked long ago. Xylose isomerase does convert glucose to fructose and vice versa but under different conditions. In the gut glucose is absorbed faster than fructose and the higher levels of fructose than favor conversion to glucose.

Thanks for writing this in plain language Joe. So glad to read that others have been experiencing cystic acne from eating fruit. I'm 57 and it took me 40 years to figure out that eating fruit and whole grains caused the cystic acne and very uncomfortable lower digestive system symptoms. My skin and health (jaundice) was especially worse when I was 100% plant based.
My diet now looks like this (we are on a strict budget, so grow as much veg as I can): Mostly all organic: Homemade sourdough buckwheat bread, homemade cashew cheese, (use the LEMON PEEL with a little apple cider vinegar) , homemade MILDLY cultured sauerkraut, homemade stevia sweetened chocolate, some raw green every day, coconut oil in most things, some olive oil, sweetleaf stevia, coffee (it kick starts my liver enzymes), a little meat or chicken every 4-7 days no more than fits in the palm of my hand, crepes made with sunflower seeds and tapioca flour, pastry made with almonds or sunflower seeds and tapioca, cooked veggies in a variety of ways. And constant experimenting to find recipes!

I am very confused. Xylose Isomerase converts fructose to glucose and therefore is recommended for fructose malabsorption. However I also found that this enzyme is used for the conversion of glucose to fructose to produce "high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This is really a CONTROVERSY and I would like to know which one of the two, fructose to glucose or glucose to fructose is the right answer.
Thanks

In reply to <a href="https://www.dietvsdisease.org/fructose-malabsorption/#comment-75223">Holly</a>.

Im 53 and have had terrible acne all my life. I just get sudden flairs with deep cysts and could never figure out why. Back, chest, arms, jaw, and face. It was worst when I was vegan for ten years—just terrible. I, too, get hot flashes with a really red face when eating certain fruits but figured they couldn’t be the problem because they are healthy. Wine also causes this reaction but not other types of alcohol, although I have never tested beer. My kid has just tested with FM. I assume I have it as well. The skin symptoms are much worse than the gastrointestinal ones.
