it's up to you, depending on your goal. assuming you're going for weight loss, if you restrict your calories during the 5 days, your weight loss will be faster. if you don't, it is likely the 2 days of fasting will help by offsetting the effects of eating for the 5 days, meaning your weight will at least be maintained.

Hi Margaret,

In the other 5 days, do you eat normally or do you still limit your calorie intake?
Thanks.

Hi Joe,

I'm interested in trying this IF, however I'm concerned about the negative effect on skipping breakfast under 16/8 or Leangains Method regime. What do you think?

Thanks.

Hi Elize, it would effect your blood sugar levels positively, unless your glycemic load is still high when you do eat.
Very negatively if you take diabetes medications because you can go hypoglycaemic. In this case, do not do anything without seeing your doctor first.

There's not much research, but it could go either way it seems. Some say that missing the meal causes a great sugar spike in consequent meals.
And if you take medication for diabetes then you cannot skip meals. In any case you have to speak to your doctor first befre you change your eating pattern dramatically.

I have followed the 5/2 diet for 4.5 years. I originally lost 16 kegs and have not put any weight back on. It works extremely well for me. There is no choice as to what to eat ,you skip two meals and have 500 calories on your one meal of the day.
