In 2017 I had a large hiatal hernia repaired, gallbladder removed and hospitalized for pneumonia twice. An MRI has come back with all negative findings. This is wonderful, but I still have almost constant pain very much like a gallbladder attack. I have severe belching and flatulence. I'm taking VSL3 probiotic and cholestryramine which has helped the chronic diarhea but I have gallbladder type pain and stomaches ranging from annoying to debilitating. The doctor has recommended a low fodmap diet. Day 1 has not seen any change but I can be patient. My body has been through alot this year and I've taken so many antibiotics that it is no wonder my gut is a mess. Looking for ideas and support. Thank you.

The non-FODMAP thing that has helped me the most has been not sitting. If I'm standing or walking frequently instead of sitting for long periods, I don't usually have symptoms.

Staying away from wheat and most other grains (corn, especially) has helped a lot. I rarely have the cramping and bloating I used to have. I have also given up most sweets, except dark chocolate, and my fruit intake is mostly berries, grapes, apples sometimes. I do eat aged cheese (no blue cheese) and plain yogurt (with berries) almost every day. For several months I have been on the "Grain Brain" type of ketogenic diet, discovering the wonders of coconut oil, eating salmon or tuna several times a week, and occasional red or brown rice. Lots of kale, zucchini, onions, garlic, mushrooms, eggs. It has been 3 years since I stopped eating 'four-legged animals' (except for occasional bacon), so my protein sources are eggs, cheese, poultry, fish, nuts, yogurt. Unfortunately, I've not found any beans that don't cause problems. I have lost about 18 pounds without sacrifice. Oh, I also fast at least once/month. Exercise is
sporadic because of arthritis pain.

Thanks for the article. It is always helpful to gain insight into other peoples journeys with health :)
I can relate with the anxiety causing digestive discomfort and I feel like that is the biggest piece to my puzzle. Learning to become more conscious with my breathing has greatly reduced my symptoms.
